Abstract
The transmission of a coherent beam interacting with sodium atoms in a Fabry-Perot resonator displays a complex stationary and dynamical behaviour. It follows from the presence of many degrees of freedom, arising from the atomic structure and from the "velocity group" subdivision of the atoms in the inhomogeneously broadened interaction with the field.
