Abstract

The optical receiver is one of the most critical components in any optical system design. This paper will compare receiver operating modes and introduces a novel approach which enhances system robustness to optical power non-uniformity. The receiver dynamic range is of critical concern. The source of this variation in signal level can be due to the characteristics of the transmitter, the optical interconnect and the receiver.
