Abstract

Amorphous rare-earth-transition-metal (RE-TM) materials are promising candidates for erasable optical recording. Recording, reading and erasing can be performed over 106 times without any measurable degradation. Long term stability for recording, retrieval and erasing is still a matter of concern since lifetimes are required of at least 5-10 years for these types of media.
