Abstract
An optical head for optical disk system has three optical functions, in addition to light beam focusing on a disk. These are splitting the reflected beam from the optical axis, focusing error detection optics, and tracking error detection optics. Conventional optical heads have employed several bulky optical elements to realize these three optical functions, for example, a half mirror, a cylindrical lens and a spherical lens pair, and a grating, respectively. This complicated optics set up has prevented realizing a small size and light weight optical head.
