Dependence of Laser-Feedback Noise on Optical-Path Length

Abstract

Laser-feedback noise in a GaAIAs laser was investigated as a function of optical-path length and modulation frequency. Laser-feedback noise was discovered to be a strong function of the phase difference between the modulated irradiance of the laser and the reflected light intensity. With proper selection of the high frequency of the laser current, satisfactory laser-noise suppression can be achieved for any optical-path length.
