Abstract

In phase change optical recording, it is important to study the crystallization properties of the recording materials. These properties determine not only the maximum data rate but also the stability of the recorded amorphous mark. For example, in order to obtain high data rate, fast crystallization rate is needed. However, faster crystallization rate will sometimes reduce the stability of the amorphous marks. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the crystallization mechanism in order to find the appropriate recording materials that satisfy both the high crystallization rate and the stability requirements.
