Abstract
Novel mass fiber fusion splicers have been developed for joining aerial optical cables. By minimizing the functions, a weight of a micro-splicer is reduced to one tenth of the conventional splicers.
As optical fiber cables approach offices and homes, the cables often take the forms of aerial cables. One of the major issues of the aerial optical cables is splicing of fibers in aerial routes on a pole or between poles.
