Abstract

During the past year, there has been a major expansion in the utilization of fiber-optic data links for computerindustrial applications. The component design approaches that are used are different from those in telecommunication systems and range from discrete electro-optical transducer elements to integrated transmit- receive (T-R) modules incorporating custom integrated circuits, internal optical line coding, and integral single-fiber connectors for use with arbitrary data formats.1,2
