Subpicosecond cinematographic display of modes of a fiber

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We describe a new coherent optics technique which selects each of the modes excited in meter- length samples of multimode fibers by discriminating the time of flight of the mode. The result of the observation reported is equivalent to subpicosecond sequential display of the output end of the fiber in which a short light pulse would have been injected.
