Abstract
We report here on the ability of the newly developed two-point technique1 to obtain accurate backscatter loss signatures on fiber systems with long repeater spacing. The range capability with two-point processing is investigated, and a predicted limit of 40-dB one-way fiber attenuation is verified by measurement. Further we show how accurate joint loss estimates can be made and fiber faults located within this range.
