Abstract

The integrated-optic spectrum analyzer (IOSA) is a device for performing spectral analysis of rf signals. The rf signal is applied to a surface acoustic wave (SAW) transducer generating a SAW that trasverses a guided optical beam. Through Bragg interaction a portion of the optical beam is deflected, and the deflected beam is imaged onto an array of detectors with a lens. The deflection angle is proportional to the SAW frequency, and thus the distribution of the deflected beam on the detectors indicates spectral content.
