Abstract

Recent optical fiber fabrication technology in Japan, as well as in other countries, has stepped into the significant level where industry is capable of providing practical fibers for the now burgeoning optical telecommunication systems. This remark is based on the state-of-the-art regarding the manufacturing process for optical fibers, focusing on the VAD method, together with future trends in fiber fabrication technology.
