Abstract

An optical link incorporating 1.1 km of single-mode fiber and operating in the 2.0-6.0-Ghz band was developed. The long link and a 2-m short link were tested for signal, noise, frequency response, group delay distortion, and power linearity. The rf properties of the laser, fiber, detector, and amplifier were separated where possible on the basis of a model. To our knowledge this is the first comprehensive study of the rf properties of a long fiber-optic link in this band.
