Abstract
The Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) is the principal North American conference on the research, technology, and application of optical fibers and is the fifth in the series of topical meetings which originated in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1975. Starting with the 1982 meeting, OFC will be held on a yearly basis. This meeting (OFC) is also a part of a series of major world conferences to provide international forums for the interchange of information on the progress and development of optical guided wave research. Every second year, the regional conferences in North and South America, Europe and Africa, and the Far East combine to form, in addition to their regular yearly meetings, the International Conference on Integrated Optics and Optical Fiber Communication (IOOC) which in 1983 will be held in Tokyo, Japan. Additionally, topical meetings on integrated and Guided-Wave Optics are sponsored by the Optical Society of America and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to discuss work in planar wave-guides and semiconductor light sources and integrated opto-electronics.
