Abstract

VAD single-mode fibers with varied parameters were fabricated. Using these fibers, the transmission characteristics and sensitivity to the distortion force were measured and compared. The experiment clarified that dispersion depends on the fiber parameters. However, high N.A. design dispersion-shifted fiber incurs only a slightly increased transmission loss. Optical loss increases due to bending and lateral force were also measured. The dispersion-shifted fiber showed increased stability against these distortion forces, promising good performance during the cabling process.
