Abstract
In this paper we report on the fabrication and characterization of high-speed high-sensitivity GaAs Schottky barrier detectors designed for use in microwave fiber-optic links. Optical fibers offer several significant advantages over coaxial cables for the transmission of microwave signals. These include smaller size and weight, much lower losses, and immunity from electromagnetic interference. Transmission of microwave signals via fiber optics requires transmitters and receivers with bandwidths large enough to handle the microwave signals.
