Abstract

A holographic multiport coupler1 has been constructed with two plane-parallel holograms (back- to-back technique) intercoupled by plane-wave fronts. A deflecting hologram HD provides plane- wave transformation and angular deflection for predetermined directions. The coupling holograms HC make the wave front conversion match a particular optical port. Translation and rotation of the holograms can be used to perform switching functions.
