Automated-mode radius measurement using the variable aperture method in the far field

Abstract

The mode radius, a measure of the size of the LP01 mode, is considered an important parameter to specify and control in the manufacture of single-mode optical fibers. Of primary interest is the parameter's direct relationship to splice loss.
