Abstract
Stimulated Raman amplification (SRA) of optical signals in optical fibers is of great interest1 because of its expected high-gain large saturation output power2 and high-speed response,3 as compared with amplification using semiconductor lasers. However, SRA with stable gain has not yet been realized using a cw pump laser2,3 because of pump power fluctuation Induced by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS)4 during transmission. In other words, the simultaneous occurrence of SBS has been a major problem in applying SRA to transmission systems.
