Abstract

We review recent advances in the field of single-mode fiber measurements, pointing out the most promising developments. Although well-established techniques are already available for the most relevant parameters, there is still room for substantial improvement in terms of dynamic range, accuracy, and practicability of existing methods. Moreover new applications and fiber designs are going to require new kinds of experimental technique. Some typical cases are considered in the following as meaningful examples.
