Abstract

This tutorial addresses architectural and technological considerations associated with the introduction of high-speed optical networks into the local telecommunications network. Specific topics include channel structures and bit rates at the subscriber interface, fiber deployment topologies, technological selections for the subscriber Interface, and various network components. This tutorial also reviews worldwide activities. Including a summary of standards positions in the domestic and international committees.
