Abstract

There has recently been considerable Interest in sensors and waveguide devices fabricated on Z-propagating LiNbO3.1,2 Resistance to optical damage, refractive-index symmetry, and the ability to fabricate simple TE/TM converter device structures have contributed to the development. As with any propagation direction it is important to be able to tune simply the waveguide characteristics to a desired wavelength or effective Index and form buried symmetric waveguide profiles for fiber coupling.
