Abstract

The spectral characteristics of a laser diode in which light is injected outside the locking range have been studied In terms of nondegenerate four-wave mixing1 and more recently as due to optically induced modulation.2 It has been pointed out that this behavior could serve as an all-optical tool for studying the dynamic response of the device. In addition, these effects can also represent a limitation in applications in which different wavelengths are unavoidably injected in the slave laser along with the desired locking one. An example could be a coherent homodyne receiver based on an Injection-locked local oscillator in the presence of the various channels of an optical frequency division-multiplexed signal.
