Characterization of crosstalk in four-core graded-index multicore fiber

Abstract

Low-cost high-fiber-count high-density cables are necessary to construct a practical optical subscriber feeder line. To overcome the limitation of cable diameter and to extend the fiber density, multicore optical fibers are useful in these cables. Various types of high-density fiber have been investigated, for example, multicore fiber and bunch fibers1; optical crosstalk from the signal core to another adjacent core is an important problem. This paper describes the crosstalk characteristics of four-core graded-index multicore fibers, and the dependence of crosstalk under bending and microbending is examined.
