Minitutorial: device packaging

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This tutorial defines the device packaging problem and describes several solutions. A device package is the optical, mechanical, electrical, and thermal interface between the optical device and the outside world. It must be manufacturable in large volume at low cost, and it is expected to be troublefree for years. So far there are no perfect solutions, but the problems are well understood.
