Abstract

As optical fiber networks grow there will be an increasing need for switching high-rate digital signals. Both electronic and optical technologies are considered candidates for application in these future systems. We review progress in the fabrication of dense arrays of switches using electronic technologies with emphasis on CMOS technology.
