Abstract

The additional losses of step-index dispersion-shifted fiber with high N.A. are strongly dependent on the fiber drawing condition.1,2 The fiber drawing tension and the combination of speed and temperature induce stresses in core and cladding.3 We have investigated the influence of drawing tension on birefringence, scattering loss, and loss increase due to hydrogen.
