Abstract
Besides the telephone, TV distribution is one of the most important services and has a great influence on the design of future optical local loops. Because of its large potential, optical communication techniques have created interest in using these techniques for TV distribution purposes in local networks. There are several proposals with respect to alternative system configurations which differ in their performance and technical requirements and, therefore, in their time Scale for a possible introduction. The main system concepts are discussed under the aspect to provide up to 100 TV channels to the subscriber.
