Abstract
An optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) is defined as the circuit consisting of optical and electronic devices which are monolithically integrated on a single substrate. It has been ten years since the first OEIC was demonstrated.1 Since then, various types of OEIC have been developed and demonstrated. The OEICs, however, have not been applied to practical use. We report the use of OEICs in practical optical transmission systems.
