Abstract

Fiber Bragg grating reflectors have potential use as narrowband filters and in nonlinear modulators and switches. We report on the results of two approaches for obtaining a very narrowband response from a fiber grating. The first is to reduce the reflection bandwidth by increasing the grating length. In the second approach a phase shift is incorporated into the grating to form a resonator.1,2 This is the first demonstration of a grating resonator made in an optical fiber.
