Abstract

Although an in-line single-mode filter where a thin filter chip is embedded in a fiber1 exhibits a low insertion loss and good wavelength discrimination with a conventional single-mode fiber whose mode field diameter (MFD) is around 10 µm, these characteristics deteriorate as the MFD decreases. We report a low loss in-line single-mode filter where a thin filter chip is embedded in the waist of a biconical fiber taper.
