Abstract

Dielectric waveguides in silicon V-grooves have been previously investigated1,2 for use in integrated optics. Recently, polymer optical adhesives were used to make low-loss waveguides on printed circuit board material and silicon wafers.3,4 We report here the development of such low-loss polymer optical waveguides in silicon V-grooves and demonstrate out-of-plane coupling from micromachined serial taps.
