Abstract
Optical frequency division multiplexing (FDM) is the most promising method to achieve high-capacity—more than 1000 channels— optical communication systems. Single-longitudinal-mode wavelength tunable laser diode is a key device for FDM systems. Multielectrode DFB lasers which have good tuning characteristics and FM response have been reported so far.1,2 For light sources to realize the practical FDM systems, compactness, facility of assembly, and high reliability are essential. Therefore, integration of tunable lasers is indispensable.3
