Abstract
A practical repeaterless coherent optical transmission system with an optical transmitter, an erbium-doped fiber booster amplifier, and a polarization diversity receiver is being tested in a field environment.1 This paper describes the evaluation of the polarization diversity receiver based on the results of laboratory and field experiments. Figure 1 shows the CPFSK regenerator configuration. Transmission bit rate was 2.48832 Gbit/s. transmission wave length was 1.552 μm, and maximum output power of the booster amplifier with APC function was 18 dBm. Modulation index was set to 0.8 considering SBS and demodulated wave form degradation. The polarization diversity receiver contains one directional coupler (DC), one polarization beam splitter (PBS), and two dual-pin-HEMT balanced receivers.
