Abstract

Distributed erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs)1 have been of interest for soliton transmission2 and lossless distribution networks.3 We have fabricated a distributed EDF with low background loss and evaluated the gain and noise characteristics.4 We also theoretically estimated the characteristics in an analog transmission using a distributed EDFA.
