Abstract

Transmission technology has advanced enormously in recent years. The bandwidth offered by fiber-optic transmission technology makes gigabit/second transmission speeds straightforward to achieve. However, building a full network that achieves sustained gigabit/second transfer rates between two user applications has proved far more difficult to accomplish.
