Abstract
Due to the uncoordinated nature of traffic arriving at the input ports of asynchronous transfer-mode (ATM) switches, contention for output ports during cell transmissions is an important issue. Therefore, a method of prioritizing and scheduling the cell transmissions is necessary. Here, we propose and analyze a photonic device, based on a graph-coloring scheduling algorithm,1 suitable for this task. We only consider the most general case where, during a transmission slot, an input port is connected to all its requested output ports or none at all.
