Abstract
This paper reviews the issues that have previously limited the mass deployment of Fiber in the Loop (FITL) in the residential environment and examines the substantial progress made in overcoming these problems. It also examines the driving forces and opportunities that are presented by the resultant broadband-capable infrastructure, concluding that the pull from the opportunities coupled with the success in resolving the issues previously constraining deployment will lead to the start of rapid deployment in the next few years.
