Abstract
Vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes (SELDs) have many potential advantages and are expected to play an important role in applications such as the optical interconnect.1,2 Vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes (SELDs) have many potential advantages and are expected to playj an important role in applications such as the optical interconnect.1,2 Although the photon lifetime of these lasers are likely to be comparable to edge-emitting lasers due to a combination of high mirror reflectivity and short cavity length, they have the potential for high modulation speed because of the high photon density in the cavity.
