Abstract

Reliability for a fiber-optic connector or splice is the likelihood that, when installed, it will meet its performance specification throughout its service life. The design of the product, the quality of the manufacturing and assembly process, and the stresses applied to the product during its service life determine reliability. Relationships between design, quality, and stress are established for failures that have been observed.
