Abstract

There is currently a great deal of interest in the progress of 1300-nm fiber-amplifier technology. This is due to the potentially enormous impact of amplification in the second telecommunications window on network architecture, particularly in CATV analogue systems and when used as a complement to erbium-doped fiber amplifiers in broadband wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) networks.
