Abstract

Fiber communication offers ultrawide bandwidth and security for voice and data transmission. Because of the rapid advances of computing and multimedia technologies, the era of B-ISDN will come soon and the need for high data rates will increase rapidly with time. Extensive research efforts on components and networks at data rates well above 10 Gbit/s are being carried out. Lightwave communication involves optical links, switches, and computer interfaces. High-speed electronic circuits play key roles in these components.
