Abstract

Time-domain-multiplexing (TDM) switching fabrics are of central importance in present-day telecommunications exchanges. This paper considers the optical implementation of such fabrics, with optical switching and electronic control. Figure 1 represents the function of a TDM switching network. There are m inputs and outputs, each carrying TDM frames of n time slots. The TDM switching network switches the mn input channels onto the mn output channels in any order.
