Abstract

Raymond W. Smith was named chairman and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic in 1989. He joined the Bell System in Pennsylvania and held a number of positions, including director of finance and budgets for AT&T. Before becoming a Bell operating company president in 1983, he held positions in operations, engineering, finance, and external affairs.
