Abstract

Fiber-optic transmission of digital multilevel quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM) and analog AM-virtual-sideband (AM-VSB) television signals is a subject of intense interest in the telecommunication and CATV industries. This hybrid analog/digital video transmission system has the advantages of compatibility with the existing CATV network and channel capacity sufficient to meet anticipated future requirements for compressed digital video signals.
