Abstract

Erbium-doped fiber lasers (EFLs) have attracted considerable interest as tunable, high-power sources in the 1.55-µm telecommunications window. They can yield very low relative-intensity noise in the important 10-MHz-to-l-GHz region and have the potential for extremely narrow (< 1 kHz) spectral linewidths.
