Abstract
During the past year, significant steps have been taken to create a ubiquitous fiber network. The Clinton administration articulated its vision of the “National Information Infrastructure.” Deutsche Bundepost Telekom in Germany, and Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, and U.S. West in the U.S. began deploying “fiber-to-the-curb” systems. And, Bell Atlantic and TCI agreed to the largest communications deal in American history. Their merger is expected to revolutionize the telecommunications environment.
