Abstract

SCM optical transmission systems for CATV and mobile-radio applications require a very high received CNR. It is very important to reduce LD intensity noise NLD and optical-reflection-induced noise Nref in order to achieve a high received CNR. This paper proposes, for the first time to our knowledge, a multiple-LD method1 that can equivalently reduce NLD and Nref. The feasibility of this method is confirmed by using a newly developed array of partially corrugated laser diodes2 (PC-LDs).
