Abstract

Clear-channel transmission, i.e., transmission on dedicated optical paths without requiring electrical regeneration, of subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) analog and digital modulated signals in all-optical networks offers the advantages of high capacity, low cost, and readily available upgradability of video and data services.1,2 SONET-based ring networks can provide easy network access and head-end distribution for video program vendors if the SCM channels are carried by separated wavelength channels. We present here, for the first time to our knowledge, an SCM clear-channel demonstration in a reconfigurable multiwavelength all-optical network test bed3 to distribute analog-video and BPSK-data signals copropagated with multimedia digital services transported on ATM/SONET.
