Abstract

There has been much recent attention focused on the use of semiconductor laser amplifiers (SLAs) in high-speed optical systems.1 This paper describes the use of SLAs as ultrafast all-optical logical AND gates. Logic devices such as these have been identified as suitable for decision elements in ultrafast all-optical packet networks.2
